Compensatory Time: A Valuable Benefit

As a non-exempt sworn employee, you may earn compensatory time, often referred to as "comp time." This valuable benefit allows you to accrue time off in lieu of overtime pay.

How it Works:

  • Earn Comp Time: For every hour of overtime worked, you earn 1.5 hours of comp time.
  • Maximum Accrual: You can accumulate up to a maximum of 480 hours of comp time.
  • Overtime Pay Beyond Maximum: Once you reach the 480-hour limit, any additional overtime will be paid at the overtime rate.
  • Cash Out Upon Separation: When you leave the organization, you'll receive payment for all accrued comp time at your separation rate of pay.
